So, thinking about Boxing Day…

There are a number of items in my wardrobe I might never wear again. Not because they are horrid, but because they do not quite suit me, either in coloring or temperament. There are pieces I will keep simply because they are lovely, even if I do not have an occasion to wear them.
I can, and should, give away the other pieces to those who would benefit from them, when I might not be able to use them. Throwing them all in the box and pitching it at the first newcomer I see is not the answer, though. I have a number of no-transfer items that will simply be stored or deleted. I also have several “no copy” items that will need to be packaged separately. Augustus learned this when he tried to give me a box of things. All it took was one “No transfer” item to make it impossible to send, and one “no modify” item to make repacking a headache.
Then there is the directory of designers. I have several landmarks for women’s couturiers, but men’s furnishings, I have only that list from… was it Herr Drinkwater’s request? At any rate, I will contact the designers, and ask permission to add their landmarks to this list, and inquire if they have free or low-cost items that I could mention to those new in the world.
I would not presume to ask them to create an item, as such, but if they have already done something of the sort, it is a way to gain new custom from new residents when they do have the ready. Fraulein Vandeverre has my custom mainly because of the grey gown, though I have not seriously wandered into the Renaissance sims. Fraulein Qi came to my notice through her work with the Rose por Vie event, and the donation gown I obtained there.
Many ballrooms offer free formal wear if they require formal dress. My idea is to offer a wider assortment of choices, within the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and perhaps suggest places of interest by including a file box with the note cards. When this was just about the clothes, I felt confident that with the notes from Frau McLagden-Warburton’s tea, I should be able to assemble a respectable directory. I may need assistance in a larger project, but I believe I know the place to start.
To take an unexpected turn in the narrative, I feel I must mention I was distressed that I did not have the stamina to help host an eight-hour function, and have not been acquainted with many in Caledon, because they are morning larks to my evening nightingale (not to mention the Baron’s midnight owl schedule). I do not know that I am ready for another dance, but a tea could be within my abilities, and possibly cross the schedules comfortably. As I have not been steeped in the culture, I would not know what topics for conversation to suggest. Then I was struck by the Idea – Boxing Day is coming, and with the holiday season, a possible influx of new residents.
I would be doing this anyway, and to do so in the company of others would make it more enjoyable. I cannot say that this is necessarily an Original Idea, for Lord Primbroke had already declared an Inventory Organization Week, and Siyu Suen has declared there will be a Pajama Party inventory swap/cleanup this Saturday. (I am a mere piker at only 8,000 items, but to have that many single pieces and no pajamas?) I just took another small step down the path I perceived, and my puzzle-box brain picked up the link to the holiday season.
Now to see if I can plan this while attempting to pull off an opening for a pub in the next fortnight or so….
