Reflections on the season.

A long look at the next double-fortnight. The coming season does not hold the same joy for me as it has in the past, for I am away from my family. My neighbors are gracious, and welcoming, and have made the transition easier. There is still the issue that duties in separate realms keep me from joining my mate, and my son had his own duties to attend over the holidays this year. My brother drops by on occasion, but he is here and gone so often there is no telling if he will be here to keep Christmas with me.
However.
A lovely young lady of my acquaintance will not be able to keep Christmas with her father, this year or any in the future. I do not know her well enough to claim friendship, but my heart goes out to her, for while my tribulations are temporary, her loss is a permanent one. Every life is to be cherished, and we should celebrate those who are with us, even in spirit, and remember those who have passed on. For every person we know touches our lives and changes us, and they should be honored in our memories.
I realized my angst was very selfish, and unwarranted. I have dear friends who are here, and I will do my best to make sure they understand how much I value their company. I hope those of my new neighbors who find themselves alone this season will realize that we are all family, in some way or another. After all, friends are the family you choose.
I wish a Happy Christmas, Kala Christouyenna, Sarbatori Fericite, Heughliche Winachten, Vesele Vanoce and Nadolig Llawen to all my friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and yes - even the odd adversary.
